2015 Experience Conference: Creating the New Normal: Early College For All.Beginning Monday, EDWorks is hosting the 2015 Experience Conference: Creating the New Normal: Early College For All. For two days in Atlanta, there will be concentrated discussions around Early College:

  • How can we improve teaching and learning?
  • What’s in it for higher education?
  • What policies need to be in place to support the Early College model?

At EDWorks, we are leading the way to a new normal. We foresee a new normal where every high school student will experience college success and attain a meaningful number of coherent college credits while in high school. More specifically, we want to be able to promise every student that if they work hard, persist, and take full advantage of available opportunities, they can complete up to 14 years of schooling in 12 years – and come away with an associate degree or up to 2 years of college credit! This needs to become the new normal.

When you consider that fewer than 15% of low-income and minority students entering 9th grade actually earn a four-year degree, yet more than 87% of early college high school graduates persist to a four-year degree – this is perhaps the most promising strategy for moving students to college completion.

If anyone wonders whether or not this work is “innovative” or worthy of further investment, the answer is a resounding, ABSOLUTELY!

We look forward to learning and sharing with people at the 2015 Experience Conference, as we work together to insure that Early College For All becomes the New Normal!
